ALL SHOOK UP runs Nov. 10-12

ALL SHOOK UP
Presented by Union Community Theatre Youth Program
Nov. 10-12
Union

A musical comedy built around a number of songs made famous by Elvis Presley. It’s NOT a biographical revue. It takes place in 1955, somewhere in middle America, where one girl’s dream and a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger help a small town to discover the magic of romance and the power of rock & roll. Among the 24 songs featured in the score are classics like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Love Me Tender,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and of course the title tune. –www.guidetomusicaltheatre.com

trueHUNGER
Presented by True Theatre
Nov. 7
Over-the-Rhine

Our storytellers for the evening include a man who lives to help others, frustrated by a man who doesn’t want help… or anything, for that matter; a woman struggling to be a role model for her sister, despite poverty and homelessness; a CEO of a prominent humanitarian organization, reflecting on the events of his life that made him qualified for his line of work; a retiring competitive eater seeking new ways to sate his unique brand of hunger; and a Muslim woman who finds a home, but has to build her own community.

These are the people who live and work and walk among us. They could be you. Join us this evening, meet them, and maybe learn a little something about yourself in the process.

Note: Previous performances have sold out weeks in advance.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
Presented by Troy Civic Theatre
Nov. 4-19
Troy

This is a hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show’s Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. The hysterical tunes include: “My Friend, The Dictionary,” “I’m Not That Smart” and “I Speak Six Languages.”

ARLO GUTHRIE – ‘Boys’ Night Out
Presented by Cincinnati Arts Association
Oct. 24
Downtown

Arlo Guthrie’s concerts embody the spirit of the ’60s while staying at the forefront of contemporary folk, all combined with his unique style, which is at once hilarious and inspiring. The legendary singer-songwriter now gets back to his roots, performing his hits and many deep album cuts from a repertoire spanning more than 40 years. Guthrie has long been a crowd favorite as he incorporates his humorous philosophical reflections with folk-rock classics and brilliantly crafted, thought-provoking new works. Son Abe Guthrie, grandson Krishna Guthrie, instrumentalist Gordon Titcomb, and long-time drummer Terry ‘a la Berry’ Hall form the Boys’ Night Out band, offering both synergistic and familial support.
