PRELUDE TO A KISS tells the story of a couple, Peter and Rita, who fall in love despite Rita’s pessimistic outlook on life. Shortly after their wedding, a supernatural event tests the strength of their love and commitment to each other, when a mysterious old man insists on kissing the bride. While honeymooning, Peter gradually realizes that the woman by his side is not his wife. The wedding kiss caused Rita’s soul and the old man’s to change places. Peter must track down the old man and free his young love’s spirit, trapped in an aging and diseased body, before it’s too late.

ADAPTATION and NEXT run Feb. 16-26

ADAPTATION and NEXT
Presented by Oxford Area Community Theater
Feb. 16-26
Oxford

Two one-act plays. ADAPTATION is a contest, played like Parcheesi, in which the contestant advances or is sent back through the seven ages of man. The play creates a picture of man from birth until death, with all its madness, with all its familiarity, and with all its nonsense.

NEXT is set in an Army Induction Center, where an overweight, overage and overwrought draftee has reluctantly reported for his physical after being mistakenly called by the draft. A battleof-wits is waged between Marion Cheever, determined to avoid military service, and the career officer, just as determined to sign him up.

Directed by Mike McVey

THE CRUCIBLE runs Oct. 21-30

Reviews: The Miami Student |

Winner of the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play, The Crucible is a dramatization of the Salem Witch Trials that took place during 1692-1693. Miller wrote the play as an allegory to McCarthyism, when the U.S. government blacklisted accused communists. The story focuses upon a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife’s arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned with a host of others.
