OXACT_God of CarnageGOD OF CARNAGE
Presented by Oxford Area Community Theatre
Feb. 21-March 2
Oxford

Directed by Mike McVey

Described as “savagely funny” by the International Herald Tribune, this comedy follows two sets of parents who meet after a playground fight between their sons to discuss the incident in a rational manner. As the evening goes on, the parents become increasingly childish, resulting in a chaotic clash of egos and accusations.

WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD Runs May 16-19

OXACT_Walter Cronkite is DeadWALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD
Presented by Oxford Area Community Theatre
May 16-19
Oxford

Directed by Carly McFadden

WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD centers on two women, who appear to have nothing in common and are stuck in a waiting area at Reagan National Airport while a thunderstorm has shut down airports along the East Coast. Patty is a chatty southerner—a blue-collar woman from a red state—who is almost physically unable to tolerate silence. Margaret is a Washingtonian, reserved, educated, liberal and not interested in sharing her thoughts, or her table, with Patty. Forced together for a long night in a public place, the two strangers have no choice but to share a bottle of wine and begin to talk…and to listen. Their conversation is funny, difficult, deeply revealing and astonishingly frank. Patty and Margaret share details of their lives that lead them to a place of kinship neither of them could have imagined. Yes, Walter Cronkite is dead, but his wisdom and compassion lives on in this insightful comedy about what might be possible if people from opposite sides of the political aisle would stop shouting and take even one night to listen.

Directed by Rebecca Howard

Sister Elizabeth Donderstock is Squeamish, has been her whole life. She makes cheese balls (traditional and smokey) that sustain the existence of her entire religious community, Clusterhave. However, she feels unappreciated among her Squeamish brethen, and she decides to try her luck in the outside world. Along the way, she meets a Cockney-speaking Ukranian immigrant couple who find her a job waiting tables at Plymouth Crock, a family restaurant run almost entirely by recovering alcoholics. The alcoholics love her. The customers love her. Her Danderfrock fits right in. Things are going great for Liz, until she’s offered a promotion to manager. Unfortunately, Liz has a sweating problem, and to get the job, she’ll have to fix it. Meanwhile, back at Clusterhaven, Liz’s compatriots just can’t seem to duplicate her cheese ball recipe, and it’s going to cost them their quaint, cloistered lifestyle. They are panic-stricken and desperate, and sure she sabotaged the recipe. Does Liz go through with the operation? Can the Squeamish be saved? Will the cheese balls ever tast good again? The answers to these and so many other questions can be found in the new comedy from The Talent Family, David and Amy Sedaris
