Theatrical Improv Class Begins May 18

CI_logoThe Coincidence Improv Academy will be offering a 7-week “Fundamentals of Improv” class next week. This is the first of four progressive levels of classes, from beginner to advanced. Our goal is to give students the skills and the opportunity to perform improvised theatre for an audience.

How is this different than other improv classes? The CIA focuses on a style of theatrical improv called “long form”: grounded in truthful scenework, complex and challenging like jazz, but ultimately very rewarding for the actor and captivating for an audience.

All workshops are at Dramakinetics in Northside and are free (with a suggested donation of $5-$10 for the space)…

Saturday, March 26th 1-3pm
INTRO TO LONG-FORM: This class will focus on our theatrical style of improv — slowing down and becoming more patient and sensitive to your scene partner, finding the truth in your character, and avoiding the need to force a joke at the expense of the scene.

Saturday, April 9th 2-4pm
IMPROV FOR ACTORS: For those actors who want some tips and tricks to have a better improv audition and for those who are seeking skills in interactive theatrical productions. If you’ve taken a basic improv class and are looking for ways to get better at your craft — this workshop is for you.

Saturday, April 23rd 1-2:30
INTRO TO IMPROV: For those who have never taken an improv class and want to learn the basics in a safe and fun environment.
