Your guides: Health teacher Mr. Cobb, struggling with life-forming vocational issues, and his students Bobby, tortured by his soldier father’s perils in the Middle East combat, and Val, a slave to her hyperactivity. All try desperately to determine if “normal” and “sane” are the same thing, and to come down on the side of sanity, albeit caught in what is perhaps another-than-sane context of consequentially questionable values and chronic terrorism.

WIT IN A RED HAT On Sept. 12

CPI_Wit in a Red HatWIT IN A RED HAT
Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative
Sept. 12
Aronoff Center – Fifth Third Bank Theater [Downtown]

Written by Tammy Brady
Directed by Jennifer Keith

Cast: Erica Brady, Meredith Conner, Eric Day, Megan Hudson, Chuck Ingram, Judy Littlefield & Judy Sceifres

Three distinctly non-Shakespearean witches violate a pledge not to use their powers as they try to corral their town’s straying males, particularly a chicken farmer tellingly nicknamed ‘Cocksey’. The tactics of the weird sisters — actually only two are siblings — go somewhat awry, as their spells have the side effect of returning the husband of the head (not-at-all-ugly) hag to childhood. Tammy Brady’s good-natured comedy recalls the beloved sitcoms Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie but the enchanting principals here are a generation beyond their TV counterparts — thus, the red hat(s).

SAYING GOODBYE AGAIN on May 23

Pregnant Amy and husband David find themselves viewing their marriage differently, not through a loss of love but almost at places in time that are slightly out of sync. Amy’s parents return from where they’ve gone to help the young couple rediscover each other and unite to construct a secure parental platform for their offspring.  Rothzeid’s narrative is one of hope and transcendence, told beautifully—and lyrically–but not sappily.
