THE GHOST GIRL by 18-year-old Ariel Rodgers opens Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative’s 2020.  A boy and his father move into a home that proves to be haunted by a pursued and frightened girl.  How the boy-ghost relationship plays out will surprise you.

LILY BLOSSOMS – The title says it all — by Greg Hatfield, comprises the second part of the evening:  a magazine writer covering gardening has a back-and-forth with a married colleague and ends up changing beats.

Playwright Liz Coley has cast away Ginger and Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island in a far different location than they occupied during the classic TV comedy series.  And, for the second part of the evening, she gives us six very odd couples indeed in stories that are sure to amuse and bemuse.

THE INS AND OUTS OF LOVE on Oct. 15

Presented by Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative
Oct. 15
Aronoff Center Fifth Third Bank Theater [Downtown]

Nine short plays, some with ‘alternative’ views of romance, will be given staged readings, courtesy of Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative.  CPI acknowledges here that a few (or more) folks regard ‘Sweetest Day’ as a commercial ploy to peddle Valentine’s Day-like commodities — candy, flowers, et al. These stories offer other-than-Hallmark-y themes.

The plays include: A BETTER PLACE by Eric Thomas; A BOY AND HIS FROG by Charles Goetz; SOME ENCHANTED EVENING by Joe Bobbit; PULLING OUT by David Hughes; SHE SHOOTS, SHE SCORES by Roger Brookfield; THE OLD AND THE NU by David Greenberg; WEDDING BLISSTER by Tami Brady; YES DEAR by Jon Singer & DISTRACTED BY LOVE by Alan Joziak

Written by Jim DeBrosse

J. S. Bach, the creator of so much inspiring liturgical music, experiences an agonizing ‘dark night of the soul’ in Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative’s reading of Jim DeBrosse’s Passacaglia.  Bach’s conflict with his musical upstart son, Carl Phillipe Emmanuel, exacerbates the older man’s term of trial.  But, in the manner of J. S. Bach’s music, reconciliation and resolution mark the end of his life.
