The timeless fairytale returns with a fresh new look

CINCINNATI, OH. CINDERELLA returns this Valentine’s weekend with choreography by Victoria Morgan. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performs the music of the legendary Sergei Prokofiev, conducted by Maestro Carmon DeLeone. Audiences have five opportunities to see the beloved tale come to life at the at the Aronoff Center, February 12-14.
From the modern vision of Artistic Director & CEO Victoria Morgan, CINDERELLA has undergone a complete revitalization since it was last performed in 2010 including fresh choreography, newly refurbished sets and updated costumes.
Wardrobe Mistress Diana Vandergriff-Adams and her team have restored the original costumes and created a modern version of Cinderella’s enchanted gown. New props and production elements will be introduced such as a larger than life pumpkin that explodes to reveal a brand new, completely redesigned carriage. Also new to the production, Cinderella’s well-known mice friends will accompany her on stage as puppets. Expanding on the fresh and youthful revitalization of CINDERELLA, nine new children’s roles have been added to make a total of 51. More than 80 boys and girls between the ages of 7-18 from Cincinnati Ballet’s Otto M. Budig Academy have been learning these roles since October.
Based on the 1967 story by Charles Perrault, CINDERELLA tells the story of young woman whose hard work and good deeds go unrecognized by her stepmother and stepsisters. She remains hopeful, despite her odds, until one day she is visited by her Fairy Godmother who magically transforms her into a princess, leading her to find love and a new life.
Morgan’s version remains loyal to the original tale, including all of your favorite constituents: the diabolical step-sisters (hilariously performed by male dancers), the enchanted pumpkin and the charming Prince. With a twist of humor and more magic than ever, CINDERELLA is perfect for all ages to enjoy. Morgan hopes that audiences will also take away a deeper message that the story represents. “CINDERELLA is so much more than a fairytale,” she says. “There are elements of perseverance and triumph in her story. CINDERELLA can remind us all that a generosity of spirit and a lively, hopeful imagination can lead to a different life – a life far better than the one you know.”
