The Passing of Tom Fox

MISC_CondolencesIt is with great sadness that we observe the loss of Tom Fox, who passed peacefully in his sleep last Friday. Tom was an accomplished attorney and multifaceted fixture in the Cincinnati community theatre scene for many years.

Tom was involved with many Cincinnati theatre groups over the years. With The Drama Workshop, Tom did lighting design for many productions, including Talley & Son, Enchanted April, Inherit the Wind, and many, many others; he won Orchids for The Movie Game, and Defying Gravity. He worked on set construction crews and did set design, winning an Orchid for 2006’s production of Proof, which he also directed. He did programs. He acted. He served on the board multiple times, spearheaded the re-write of our Bylaws, and edited the newsletter for years.

Tom suffered from diabetes, which forced him to give up his law practice, and move into an assisted care facility for several years as he tried to get his disease under control. Because he couldn’t drive, many of us took turns ferrying Tom to and from board meetings, rehearsals and performances. We did so cheerfully, because Tom was not only an extraordinarily gifted individual, but was also truly dedicated to sharing his talents to make Cincinnati theatre the best it could possibly be. More recently, Tom was able to hold down a steady job, and regain some of the freedom he was previously missing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Arrangements are forthcoming, and will be passed along as soon as possible.

Ray Persing
President, The Drama Workshop
