Fairfield Footlighters announces the auditions for the role of Al in THE SUNSHINE BOYS written by Neil Simon and directed by Richard Zenk. THE SUNSHINE BOYS is the story of Al and Willie, two old vaudevillians who were the top-billed comedy duo of “Lewis and Clark” for over forty years. Now they aren’t even speaking. When CBS requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries, and laughs.
Al Lewis ( 60+ lead) – The former vaudeville partner of Willie, who abruptly decided to retire after 43 years of performing. Al is the more timid straight man to Willie’s explosive temperament, yet he can dish it out on an equal level; he accepts the limitations of old age and has learned to enjoy his golden years; however, it’s obvious he misses his old partner and the good times they shared.
Auditions will be held by Zoom or in-person arranged with the director. Email your theater resume and headshot to richardjoseph@gmail.com.
Rehearsals begin as soon as possible for five-six weeks. Masks are worn during rehearsals. All stage blocking keeps the cast members at least six feet away. The cast is asked to get a COVID test in August and again in September. Masks will not be worn the final week of rehearsals that will be held outside nor during the outdoor performances in Fairfield on 9/18 and 9/19.
